We are always happy to have new volunteers come out and join our rescue family. Volunteers are asked to help with mucking, feeding, watering, grooming and socializing the horses. Volunteers with specific skills in carpentry or handy-man jobs are always needed and appreciated! Horse experience is not required to volunteer at the rescue! There are many ways that you can help us, so please consider volunteering some time at the rescue.
High School Students — many local high schools accept your volunteer hours, worked at the rescue, as community service credit in your school transcript. Check with your school’s Community Service/Volunteer Coordinator to see if your school participates. We have had several students from Cumberland International Early College High School volunteer at the rescue and their energy and enthusiasm was contagious!
We ask that anyone interested in volunteering at the rescue to please call in advance to arrange a volunteer orientation briefing. We are in and out of the barn and pastures all day, and want to make sure there is a LMHR representative available to give you a tour of the facility, introduce you to the horses, and explain our programs.
Please Note: All volunteers must complete a Liability Release, Express Assumption of Risk, and Release of Right to Sue form prior to entering the Leilani Mae Horse Rescue property. For safety reasons, volunteers must be at least 12 years of age to work independently. Any volunteer, under the age of 12, must be within arms reach of a parent whenever working with a horse or in the pasture. Any volunteer, between the ages of 12 and 16, must be supervised by a parent or responsible adult volunteer while on the rescue property. Any volunteer under the age of 18 must have a waiver on file signed by a parent or guardian.
