Rebetta – Adopted to Her Forever Home!!
Rebetta is a 11-year-old Off-the-Track Thoroughbred Mare. Rebetta’s Jockey Club Name is “Rebetta” but we tend to call her Rebetta or Betty. Rebetta only raced twice not making any earnings, which is rare unless she got hurt when racing. Rebetta somehow became an Amish Buggy Horse! Normally, the Amish Community uses Saddlebreds and Standardbreds for their buggies, it is rare for them to get a Thoroughbred every once in a while. Sadly, after the Amish was done with Rebetta she ended up in one of the nastiest kill pens in the United States which is located in North Carolina. She has severe rain rot all over her body and majority of her lower body is covered in mud. This just comes to show how nasty these kill pens are. When she arrived at quarantine she still had her Road Shoes on from the Amish. She is a 1 on the body scale which is the lowest score a horse can reach. She arrived here at the rescue on April 29, 2021, she will still have a long way to go before she is fully rehabilitated. She has two large symmetrical patches of missing hair on both sides. This is most likely from carriage harnesses. We will cover it up daily to protect the skin from the sun. Her coat has grown back fully and she has gained a lot of weight. She had a huge crack on her front hooves. After treating them daily along with hoof supplements they are healed. She is super sweet but a little bit of spunk in her! Rebetta has found her forever home with one of our regular volunteer Stephanie M.! Stephanie and Rebetta are a perfect match made. Rebetta still lives at the rescue for now, just in case you see her when visiting.
