Piper – Rehabilitating

Piper is a 12-year-old Off-the-Track Thoroughbred Mare who stands at 16.1 hands. Her Jockey Club name is “Piperpotpie”. After her racing career she found herself in the Slaughter Pipeline, she was saved from Slaughter in August. She arrived here at the Rescue on September 25, 2020. Upon arrival we have learned that she had to be beaten in some way on her head. If you would raise your hand or try to touch her face she will try to pull away. Sadly, this is quite common in horses who are saved from Slaughter. With volunteers working with her consistently she is surprisingly good with being touched on the head we also already put a halter and lead line on her without any issues. She is sound and can only be ridden lightly. She can no longer able to be jumped and is for pleasure lighting only due to her having a capped hock. She would be perfect for a nice ride around the property. She is already showing her personality since she has arrived, it is sweet loving with a dash of attitude! She is super sweet and adores when volunteers show her love that is all she wants! If we continue to update her story when we get to truly know Ms. Piper.
