Louise and Thelma – Adopted to Their Forever Home!!

Thelma and Louise are 8-year-old jenny donkeys. Louise and Thelma were a local surrender case here in Linden. They were surrender to the rescue on October 9, 2020. Their previous owner was an older farmer who was not able to take these of Louise and Thelma anymore due to the number of cows he had and cost. They both have not been touched in 5 years, they were with cows on 200 acres of land. Upon arrival their hooves needed trimming. They both received a good trimming which was a lesson for them that we are only trying to help them. They both have cleft hooves, but we are trying our best to try to fix them to make sure they aren’t in pain. Since they had a rough past, they are still scared of everyone and everything. We have been working with them so they will learn that they will receive nothing but love and good food here! They love to do everything, and I mean everything together! They even must eat from the same feed bowl even though we offered feed in two different feed bowls. Thelma is more dominant and curious than Louise, we were able to pet Thelma within 3 days upon arrival while Louise was still deciding how she felt about us. They are both getting more comfortable with our volunteers and interactions with other horses each day! They do come closer to us but putting is still hard for a full-size adult. They tend to be still skittish towards our volunteers, but they have learned to trust a little by following Buddy a permanent donkey here. July 6, 2022 was a wonderful day for these ladies as they found their forever home!! They will be living their best lives receiving very much love and attention. On July 7,2022 Buddy has join them at their forever home. They have all become very close friends and Buddy even help Thelma and Louise learn how to trust humans again. We’re glad they all found their loving home together. We wish the best to them all and make wonderful memories.
