Johnny Walker – Permanent Resident – In Need of Sponsors
Johnny Walker is a 18-year-old Paso Fino Gelding who stands at 14.3 hands. Johnny Walker got his name because in the Kill Pen he was labeled as a Tennessee Walker, but he is a Paso Fino. Johnny was terribly abused, afraid of a raised voice or hand, and he would shake wondering if he would be hit or viciously hobbled. Once arriving at the rescue, he was being treated for thrush in his heel bulb, this is one of the worst cases of thrush the rescue has ever seen. Johnny has a little food aggression, but he would never bite, kick, or hurt you. He would just give you a little push, but it was not harmful, he was already concerned he would not get fed due to his past. He has calmed down significantly with his food aggression he is still improving. When a horse is food aggressive it does take time for them to get out of the habit. In the last few months, he started to trust more volunteers here and we are grateful for that! Johnny Walker was adopted out back in May 2020 but was sadly returned in December 2020 at no fault of his own. He came back malnourished as it is hard to see he was a 2 on the body scale (due to having his winter coat) and he was very skittish, a simple move would spook him. He has been fully rehabilitated! We weren’t sure if Johnny Walker was sound from being returned due to the fact, he is off in the back. We notice he does not move as he smoothly as he did before he was returned. He received a sound evaluation and he is not sound in his back end so to keep him out of pain he will be a companion only! In the video he was playing with his good friend Aladdin the Arabian who sadly passed away from colic. For a few weeks after Aladdin passing Johnny would still for him out in the pasture, it was heartbreaking to watch. Thankfully Johnny has become friends with Beau the Paso Fino so he isn’t lonely! They play all day acting as if they were colts again. Johnny Walker is a permanent resident due to his digestive issues. He is on medication to help him!
