Raven – Adopted to Her Forever Home!!

Raven is a 13-year-old Tennessee Walker Mare who stands at 15 hands. She was severely abused and ended up in a kill pen. To this day if you touch her butt, she automatically tucks her tail in. In February 2020 Raven had an eye infection. We treated it with antibiotics, but the infection was worsening rapidly. It got to the point it was affecting her cornea, so Dr. Burkhart advised her that she needed to go to NC State Veterinary School. The biggest scare was they would not be able to save the eye and since she was abused bad, we did not know if she would be able to adapt to only one eye. NC State would notify the rescue with updates quite often to help keep us in the loop. On March 10, 2020, the rescue was notified that they were able to save the eye and only a small amount of vision was lost. We were all relieved knowing that Raven was going to be okay! On March 13,2020 Raven came back to the rescue with a line that ran behind her eye. We used the line to give her 5 different types of medications including a calming medication to her being abused severely. She had to have her medicine every 6 hours and it was not easy. We pushed through it and she is doing great! We learned that she was previously blind in what we thought was her good eye before this all occurred, meaning she was somewhat blind when going to the kill pen. She has lost 75% of her vision but does not do bad at all you would not know she was blind. She needs special care and lots of time before she will be able to be ridden again. She is smaller built so she needs a small rider who is under 150lbs, before this she was rideable so she will just need a refresher and should be good. She is a sweet horse who is full of personality. When she is comfortable with you, she is not afraid to show it! After being overlooked for so long she finally found Crystal to give her a wonderful forever home! Raven has already showed great signs that she is comfortable with Crystal which is a huge step for Raven.
