Piper – Rideable for Light Riding – Partially Sponsored by Brittany and Giovanni P.!!
Piper is a 15-year-old Off-the-Track Thoroughbred Mare who stands at 16.1 hands. Her Jockey Club name is “Piperpotpie”. After her racing career she found herself in the Slaughter Pipeline, she was saved from Slaughter in August. She arrived here at the Rescue on September 25, 2020. Upon arrival we have learned that she had to be beaten in some way on her head. If you would raise your hand or try to touch her face she will try to pull away. Sadly, this is quite common in horses who are saved from Slaughter. With volunteers working with her consistently she is surprisingly good with being touched on the head we also already put a halter and lead line on her without any issues. After being here for a while she really does not have issues with the halter and lead line anymore. She is sound and can only be ridden lightly at a walk and trot for short amounts of time. Piper is looking for her loving forever home! She can no longer able to be jumped due to her having a capped hock. She is a hard keeper as she will need to be fed twice a day on top of her receiving hay. She definitely has a little spunky with a dash of attitude, but she is extremely loving! She is pretty high up on the pecking order. She is super sweet and adores when volunteers show her love that is all she wants! She has is what called a tiger tail but as many people call it a racoon tail! She is currently in a mixed herd does prefer geldings. She
