Artie – Light Riding – In Need of Sponsors!!
Artie is a 19-year-old Standardbred Gelding who stands at 16 hands. His U.S. Trotting name is “Art of Rocknroll”. During his racing career he performed 96 starts earning almost $25,000 for his owner. He went to auction that’s when the Amish had won him. He was a buggy horse for several years. Sadly, after his racing career was over, he found himself where no horse belongs, in a kill pen. He ended up in a kill pen in Pennsylvania where he met his new friend “Mack Ten” who is also a Standardbred Gelding that we saved. A huge thank you to Standardbred Retirement Foundation who spared both of their lives by bailing them out the horrific kill pen. Artie arrived here at the rescue on November 6, 2021, at 11pm. He was skittish and was not sure of what was happening upon arrival but having Mack Ten by his side they were ready to turn the next page in their next chapter of life! Now that they have settled in, we are started the rehabilitation process to make them happy healthy horses! They are learning what love is from our wonderful volunteers and what great meals are. They are both definitely sweethearts who just want some love and attention! Artie gave us a scare on November 25,2021 as he was trying to colic. Dr. Garrett was out of town, so we called another vet who thought it was a choke, so they gave him a shot of Buscopan. Thankfully Dr. Garrett came home that evening where he was tubed and received a shot for pain along with some tubes of Omeprazole. He was closely monitored by still recovering from the colic, but he is doing great now! He seemed to be sound from his kill pen video but sometimes they seem sound but in the end they are lame. Artie can be ridden lightly by a small person at a walk and trot (not for too long). He is strictly for pleasure riding around the property or trail rides with little to no elevation. He will be receiving a riding evaluation soon. He is a sweet gentle boy. He must be adopted out with his girlfriend Lupita the Paso Fino. They have become extremely bonded since Artie got here at the rescue. Whenever you see Artie, you see Lupita and vice versa. They love to explore the rescue together and find new adventures every day.
